Boston - again called to action
Since before the Siege of Boston in 1775-1776, our city and surrounding communities have played a central role in the continuing American struggle for independence, self-governance and freedom for all our inhabitants from tyrants, foreign and domestic.
Inspired by our history as the “Birthplace of the American Revolution” Boston Indivisible is a community of activists who welcome all Boston-area residents, connecting them with opportunities to stand up and positively affect the state of U.S. democracy—in whatever nonviolent ways are right for them. We bring people together to find community and feel hope, because we believe that working in positive, joyful unity is the only defense against authoritarianism.
We are in the midst of a multi-decade takeover of American politics by far-right ideologues with an extremist, anti-minority, anti-women, anti-democratic agenda seeking to remake America as a repressive, totalitarian state. In contrast and in response, Boston Indivisible has a single, nonpartisan purpose: moving our nation toward a healthier, more inclusive, and more representative democracy that embraces this opportunity to leapfrog previous barriers, legacies of discrimination and the current totalitarian threat to chart a future that is better than the best of our imperfect past.
Our heritage points the way. Our circumstances dictate that it’s up to us this time - all of us. No one, and no institution, is coming to save us. The time has come, as predicted by Thomas Paine, that America needs its experienced patriots if it is to survive. Those patriots are us - “We, The People”. All the people.
