SPotlight on…

Rose, Boston Indivisible member

As Rose watched the first and then, even worse, the second Trump election unfold, a growing, collective feeling was clear. In her volunteering for progressive candidates, interacting with people, working phones banks, and knocking on doors, it was clear: People were frustrated. And they were starting to turn to dark ideas.

“We need a dictator,” she heard someone say aloud one day.

Like countless others, Rose began to feel true despair. She couldn’t sleep. She found her mind wandering to the worst possible scenarios.

But then she thought about history. She thought about the countless times people have come together, performing small acts of defiance and hope–and turning the tide toward democracy and freedom. She says that in Boston Indivisible, she found a way to get involved and stay involved. She found community, hope–and real progress being made.

“I refuse to let this county go backwards,” Rose says. “When we speak out, we move toward becoming a nation that thrives not despite our differences, but because of them.”
